
What is PaperCut?

What does this block do?
The PaperCut allows user to see their printing quota balance and the impact of that printing.

Where is the block available?
The block is available for FREE here.
Prerequisite?
To implement this block you will need the following:-
- PaperCut installed and configured.
- Root access to the Moodle server.
How It Works?
Moodle’s PaperCut Block is a wrapper for PaperCut’s web widgets, Moodle supplies the information required for the widgets to function.
If the PaperCut Server is not assessable a ‘balance not available’ image will be displayed.
How To Install?
- Download and unzip the block from the above link.
- Copy the PaperCut folder to your [moodle]/blocks. [moodle] is the name of the folder that moodle is installed in.
- Login to Moodle as the admin user and click on notifications to or visit http://[your_moodle_url]/admin/index.php to complete the installation.
Configuring Moodle?
- Login to Moodle as the admin user.
- Navigate to the PaperCut block settings page. Site Administration -> Modules -> Blocks -> PaperCut Print Quotas

- Modify Block Title to fit your establishments terminology.
- Enter the Server Url for the server that PaperCut is installed on.
- Modify the Server Port if your installation is not using the default port.
- Click Save Changes.
- Navigate to Sticky Block Setting Page
Site Administration -> Modules -> Sticky Blocks
- Select My Moodle page type for configuration.
- Select from the drop down list in the Blocks block PaperCut Print Quotas
- Move block to the require location.
- Select Course page page type for configuration.
- Select from the drop down list in the Blocks block PaperCut Print Quotas
- Move block to the require location.
- PaperCut configuration is now complete.
Possible Issue?
There is a know problem when using Internet Explorer 6, if the security permissions allow the PaperCut block should automatically fix this problem. If not, copy [moodle]/blocks/papercut/pix/x.gif to [moodle]/x.gif. [moodle] is the name of the folder that Moodle is installed in.

Ian we went for papercut about a month ago. Its had a big impact already. The block is shown on the students screens and in moodle its just furthe reinforcement, so thanks.

If you are serious about controling printing in your school or any organisation you should look at Print Manager Plus.
